💀 The Ultimate Logic Test
Welcome to the absolute limit of the 9×9 grid. If “Expert” mode feels like a warm-up, it is time to face evil sudoku. This difficulty strips the board back to about two dozen starting clues. The absolute floor is seventeen: mathematicians have proved that no puzzle with fewer can have exactly one valid solution. You can read more about the deep mathematics of minimum clues on the Mathematics of Sudoku Wikipedia page.
When you play an evil sudoku extreme puzzle, simple scanning will only carry you so far. On the Evil Pro tier it will not finish the grid at all: each board is run through our solver first and discarded unless it resists singles, locked candidates, pairs and X-wings, so advanced technique is guaranteed rather than merely likely. You will be looking several moves ahead before writing down a single number. Solvers who have hit a wall on a web sudoku evil board will find the same brutality here, generated fresh every time so you never replay a grid.
🎯 How to Survive Evil Grids
Playing online sudoku evil requires patience, focus, and a mastery of advanced solving patterns. Here is how to approach the board:
- Mandatory Pencil Notes: Do not try to solve evil sudoku puzzles in your head. Immediately click the “✏️ Notes” button and begin drafting every possible candidate for every empty cell.
- Hunt for Naked Pairs & Triples: You must ruthlessly scan your notes to find pairs and triples in rows, columns, and 3×3 blocks. Eliminating these candidates is the only way to break the board open.
- Advanced Logic Chains: To conquer an evil sudoku board this brutal, you will routinely need to utilize advanced techniques like X-Wings, Swordfishes, and XY-Wings to find your next logical move.
- Zero Guessing Allowed: Our algorithm ensures every board has exactly one mathematical solution. If you guess, you will trigger the conflict scanner and ruin your run.
🕹️ Built for the Hardcore Solver
You can play evil sudoku extreme online free here, and a single board can still take over an hour to crack. We engineered this specific interface to give you total control and eliminate frustration:
Robust Notes Engine
Toggle Notes Mode to seamlessly draft candidates. When you place a permanent number, our engine automatically wipes that number from all intersecting notes to save you time.
The Lifeline (Hint)
Hit an impenetrable wall of logic? Use the Hint button to safely reveal the correct digit. Beware: using a lifeline adds a massive 60-second penalty to your final leaderboard time.
Unlimited Undo
A single typo can destroy an hour of hard work. Use our unlimited undo cache to safely backtrack through your game history and restore your previous board state.
⚙️ Hardcore Platform Tech
To ensure your progress is always protected, our platform runs elite background systems specifically tuned for long, difficult solving sessions:
Conflict Scanner
If you accidentally place a duplicate number inside the same row, column, or 3×3 block, our scanner instantly flashes red. It is your only safety net against a cascading logic failure.
Auto-Save Engine
Never lose your board. Your timer, permanent numbers, and pencil notes are securely saved locally in milliseconds. Close your tab and return tomorrow; your puzzle will be waiting.

🧩 Evil, Extreme, Killer — What the Names Actually Mean
Sudoku difficulty labels are not standardised, and three words get mixed up constantly. Here is what each one actually refers to.
Evil is a difficulty label, popularised by the classic web Sudoku sites of the 2000s as the tier above Hard. It describes how demanding the logic is — the grid, the rules and the digits 1 to 9 are all completely normal. An evil sudoku board is a standard 9×9 puzzle that simply refuses to fall to basic scanning.
Extreme is a different site’s word for roughly the same band. If you searched for evil sudoku extreme expecting a harder-than-Hard classic grid, that is exactly what this page serves. There is no separate “extreme” ruleset — it is the same puzzle type under another name, which is why the two terms return the same kind of board everywhere.
Killer is not a difficulty at all — it is a different puzzle. This is the one that genuinely confuses people. In Killer Sudoku the grid starts completely empty and the clues are dotted-outline cages with a target sum printed in the corner. You solve it with arithmetic as well as logic: the digits in each cage must add up to its total and must not repeat inside it. A Killer puzzle can itself be easy or brutally hard, so “killer evil” is really a request for a hard Killer board rather than an Evil one. If sums and cages are what you were after, the Killer page is where to go; if you want a classic grid that fights back, stay here.
In short: Evil and Extreme describe how hard; Killer describes what kind.
🎮 What You Get on Every Evil Board
Every board here is free and runs in the browser. Nothing to install, no paywall, and no account needed — tap Play as Guest and the first puzzle is already waiting. Signing in is optional and only matters if you want your times on the leaderboards.
- Two tiers. Evil and Evil Pro. Both start with about two dozen clues, so they look equally sparse — the difference is that every Evil Pro board is run through our solver first and thrown away unless it defeats every technique the solver knows. Evil Pro is the hardest board on this site.
- Pencil notes. Candidate marks in every cell, which on a board this empty stop being optional fairly quickly.
- Undo. Step back through your moves when a chain of deductions turns out to have started from a bad assumption.
- Hints. One verified digit at a time when a board genuinely stalls, rather than revealing the grid.
- A mistake counter and a live timer, with pause — the clock stops and the board hides, so a break costs nothing.
- Automatic saving. Close the tab mid-solve and your grid, notes and elapsed time are exactly as you left them when you come back in the same browser.
- Shareable puzzle IDs. Every board carries an ID you can send to someone else, or paste in to load a specific grid, so two people can race the identical puzzle.
- Leaderboards. Fastest times per tier, plus a global ranking by total XP across every mode on the site.
Every puzzle is verified to have exactly one solution before it reaches you. However stuck a board leaves you, a logical next step always exists — you will never need to guess between two valid answers.
