Play Today’s Daily Sudoku Challenge

One puzzle. 24 hours. The entire world. Play the official Daily Sudoku Challenge, build your daily solving streak, and compete for the #1 spot on the weekly leaderboard.

🔥 The Ultimate Global Competition

If you regularly play random grids, you know the difficulty can vary wildly. The Daily Sudoku Challenge changes the rules completely. Every 24 hours, our system generates one master 9×9 Sudoku puzzle. Every player who plays Sudoku Leader on a given day faces the exact same board, with the exact same numbers. That shared board turns the daily puzzle into a true daily sudoku competition, where everyone is racing the identical grid.

It is the purest form of logic competition. Because the board is standardized globally, your time on the leaderboard is a 100% accurate reflection of your skill against the rest of the world. 📈 Build Your Streak, Multiply Your XP

Consistency is rewarded heavily on the Daily Challenge board. By creating a free account, you unlock two exclusive progression systems:

  1. The Daily Streak Multiplier: Every consecutive day you log in and beat the daily puzzle, your “Streak Multiplier” increases. Playing five days in a row means your XP payout is massively boosted compared to someone playing for the first time.
  2. The Weekly Champions Board: The Daily board features an exclusive “Weekly Top 5” leaderboard. Your total Daily Challenge XP resets every Sunday night. The players who log in every day and solve the board with the fastest times and fewest mistakes will be immortalized at the top of the weekly ranks.

🕹️ One Chance to Dominate

The stakes are higher here. Once you successfully solve the sudoku of the day, you cannot replay it to get a better time. You must wait for the countdown timer to expire and the new puzzle to unlock tomorrow.

🚨

Beware the Penalties

Be careful! Every time you use the 💡 Hint button or trigger the red mistake scanner by placing an invalid number, you are hit with a harsh time penalty on the daily leaderboard.

✏️

Play Smart with Notes

To avoid those penalties, heavily utilize the Notes tool. Draft your candidate numbers before placing them to ensure a flawless, penalty-free speed run.

🎯 How Hard Is the Daily Sudoku Challenge?

It is a standard 9×9 grid with 44 of the 81 cells left empty, so you start with 37 given numbers. That is a deliberate choice rather than a random one: on this site a Medium board removes about 40 cells and a Hard board about 48, which places the daily puzzle squarely between them.

The reason is that a daily puzzle has a job an ordinary board does not. It has to be finishable by a regular solver on a regular day — nobody keeps a streak alive on a puzzle that takes two hours — while still being worth the attention of someone quick. A Medium board would be over too fast to rank anybody meaningfully; an Expert board would break most people’s streaks within a week. Forty-four blanks is the setting that keeps both kinds of player interested in the same grid.

Every board is verified to have exactly one solution before it goes out, so a stuck position always has a logical way forward. You will never need to guess between two valid answers to finish the daily.

The same board goes to everyone playing on the same date. That is what makes the leaderboard meaningful — a fast time is fast on the identical grid everybody else attempted, not on an easier draw. The puzzle is keyed to your own calendar date and the countdown runs to midnight in your timezone, so you are never waiting on a reset in a country you do not live in.

🎮 Everything on the Daily Board

The Daily Challenge is free and runs in the browser. There is nothing to install, no paywall and no account required — tap Play as Guest and today’s grid is in front of you. An account is optional and only changes whether your time reaches the leaderboards and whether your streak and XP are stored.

  • Pencil notes. Draft candidates in a cell before committing. On the daily board this matters more than usual, because a wrong entry costs you time on the leaderboard.
  • Undo. Step back through your moves when a line of reasoning turns out to have started from a bad assumption.
  • Hints, which reveal one verified digit — useful when a board genuinely stalls, but they carry a time penalty, so they are a trade rather than a free rescue.
  • A live timer with pause. The clock stops and the board hides while paused, so answering the door does not ruin your time.
  • Automatic saving. Close the tab halfway through and come back later the same day — your grid, your notes and your elapsed time are exactly where you left them.
  • A share link that sends today’s board straight to a friend or a group chat, so you can compare times on the same puzzle.
  • Streak tracking, achievements and two leaderboards — today’s fastest solvers, plus the weekly XP board that resets at the end of each week.

It all works the same on a phone as on a desktop; the keypad reflows rather than shrinking the grid, so the cells stay big enough to tap accurately.

❓ Daily Challenge FAQs

⏰ When does the Daily Sudoku puzzle update?
A new Daily Sudoku puzzle unlocks at midnight your local time, every single day. You can check the countdown timer on this page after you finish your game to see exactly when the next board drops.
🔄 Can I replay yesterday’s daily puzzle?
No. The Daily Challenge is a one-time competitive event. Once the 24-hour window closes, the puzzle is gone forever and replaced by the new daily board.
🎯 What difficulty is the Daily Sudoku Challenge?
It is a 9×9 grid with 44 of the 81 cells empty, leaving 37 starting clues. On this site a Medium board removes about 40 cells and a Hard board about 48, so the daily sits deliberately between the two — finishable on a normal day without being trivial for a fast solver. The setting is the same for everybody on a given date.
💳 Is the Daily Challenge free, and do I need an account?
It is completely free, with no download and no paywall. You can play every day as a guest without signing up. An account is optional and only matters for keeping things between visits — your daily streak, your XP and your place on the leaderboards.
⏳ What happens if I do not finish before midnight?
Your progress is saved automatically while the day lasts, so you can leave and come back as many times as you like. At midnight in your timezone the board is replaced by the next day’s puzzle, and an unfinished grid does not carry over. If your streak matters to you, finish before the countdown on this page runs out.
🎌 Is there a daily Samurai Sudoku?
Yes, on its own page. Daily Samurai Sudoku gives everyone the same five-grid Samurai board each day, always at Medium, with its own leaderboard of the day’s fastest solves. This Daily Challenge stays a single 9×9 grid so it fits a short break. For unlimited Samurai boards across three difficulties, use Samurai Sudoku, and there is a printable Samurai PDF if you would rather solve on paper.
📱 Can I play the Daily Challenge on my phone?
Yes. The board and keypad are built for touch, and the layout reflows on small screens rather than shrinking the grid, so cells stay large enough to tap accurately. Nothing needs to be installed — it runs in the mobile browser, and your progress saves the same way it does on a desktop.
💾 What happens if I close my browser mid-game?
Don’t panic! Our background auto-save engine constantly records your board state. If you accidentally close the tab, your timer pauses, and your puzzle will return exactly as you left it—as long as you return before midnight!
